The Citroen cars took the lead of operations from the start, with Yvan Muller twice improving the provisional best lap time.
At the mid-session Bennani put the Honda briefly on top of the rankings with Norbert Michelisz not far away, confirming the improvement of the Japanese cars.
But Lopez posted a 1:23.101 to jump to the top of the standings, almost equalled shortly after by Hugo Valente’s Chevrolet who clocked a time just 27 thousandths of a second adrift.
Bennani eventually placed third, only 1.5 tenths behind Lopez, with Muller in fourth ahead of Tiago Monteiro, Sebastien Loeb, Gianni Morbidelli and Michelisz.
Tom Chilton and Tom Coronel rounded off a top ten that were only covered by seven tenths.
