The attacking midfielder collapsed clutching the back of his thigh after a shot in the 1-0 quarter-final victory. He tried to carry on for a few minutes, but went down again and hobbled off the field.
More tests are needed, but there are reports in Argentina that Di Maria has suffered a thigh or hamstring strain. If confirmed, he’ll be unable to play the rest of the World Cup.
Even if there is no lesion, it would still be incredibly difficult to recover in time for Wednesday’s semi-final.
