Defending men’s singles champion Murray and world number 69 Watson have both qualified automatically, while world number 80 Laura Robson will be absent through injury.

British number six and rising star Kyle Edmund, a junior Wimbledon semi-finalist last year, will make his second appearance in the main draw.

He’ll be joined by British numbers two to five - Dan Evans, James Ward, Daniel Cox and Daniel Smethurst.

And the news is encouraging just four years after only two British men’s players were involved in the main draw.

Joining British number one Watson in the women’s draw will be Naomi Broady, Tara Moore and Samantha Murray.

In addition Ross Hutchins will return to action at Wimbledon, just 12 months after he went into remission following cancer treatment, alongside Colin Fleming in the men's doubles.

Evans will partner Ward in another wildcard selection, while brothers Ken and Neal Skupski are also rewarded with an invite after some solid recent form.

Broady and Greek partner Eleni Daniilidou earn a wildcard for the women's doubles alongside all British pairings, Johanna Konta and Tara Moore and Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith
