World number seven Ferrer wasted no time in dispatching compatriot Andujar – taking just 66 minutes and conceding only three games.

"It’s never easy but for sure it was my best match this week," said Ferrer.

"I’m happy for that. I think the first and second round I didn’t play my good tennis, I just played good in some moments. Today, I played all the match good, without a lot of mistakes and playing aggressive and consistently with my forehand. I’m happy with my game and because I am in the semi-finals."

Ferrer will now face 17-year-old wonder kid Zverev in the last four after the German overcame a poor start to beat Tobias Kamke 0-6 7-5 6-3.

The Australian Open junior champion won just six points in the opening set, but found his rhythm during the second stanza to level the match.

With the momentum behind him, Kamke took control of the decider with an early break and didn’t relinquish the advantage as he held on for the win.
