The injury that forced Youzhny's withdrawal means the world number two will face either Roger Federer or Lukas Rosol in the semi-final on Friday.

On the other side of the draw, seventh seed Philipp Kohlschreiber downed Malek Jaziri 6-2 6-3 in just over an hour and 10 minutes.

Kohlschreiber only dropped one point on his serve during a dominant first set that he wrapped up courtesy of two breaks of his Tunisian opponent’s serve.

The second set was a more competitive affair but Kohlschreiber secured the crucial break at 4-3 before holding his next service game to set up a semi-final against either Tomas Berdych or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
