Swimming - Michael Jamieson targets more medals

Michael Jamieson insists he is desperate to repeat his London 2012 podium performance on the World Short Course Championship stage next week.

Jamieson will head to the Turkey-hosted world showdown with an Olympic 200m breaststroke silver medal to his name from the London Games this summer.

The Scot is the star name in a 19-strong GB team heading to Istanbul for the short-course championship which kicks off on December 12.

Hannah Miley, fresh from European Short Course Championship gold and silver medals last month, is another star name on the team.

Miley will take on the world's best swimmers for the first time since, despite being heavily tipped, she came up short in her bid to deliver a 400m individual medley medal at London 2012 – finishing fifth.

Double European junior champion Matthew Johnson makes his senior GB bow in Istanbul as does Georgia Hohmann.

And Jamieson admits he can't wait to try and get another taste of the podium atmosphere next week.

"This is the first big competition for me and the first major international meet of the new season," said Jamieson. "I feel like I’m in good shape and have rested a bit in preparation.

"I swam better than I expected at a couple of preparation meets so I’m hoping to go out there, post a best time and get onto the podium."
