Superbike - Melandri topples Fabrizio in FP2

Marco Melandri took a tumble but still topped the timesheets in the second free practice session ahead of the season-opening World Superbike race at Phillip Island.

The Italian on his BMW became the first rider to topple Michel Fabrizio so far this weekend, clocking a time of 1min 30.814secs.

That time was enough to pace the session, which Melandri ended in the gravel trap, although it was still some way off Fabrizio's record-breaking lap in Q2 earlier in the day.

Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli came in second, ahead of Ducati's Carlos Checa and Kawasaki's Tom Sykes.

Leon Camier on a Suzuki rounded out the top five.
