Superbike - Kawasaki complete Valencia test

Kawasaki Racing are already looking ahead to the 2012-13 World Superbike season with riders Tom Sykes and Loris Baz completing a testing session at Valencia.

With dry conditions on the first of the two-day test at the Spanish track, the team was able to take a good look at their new ZX-10Rs bike and tyres and, although rain interrupted the second day, both riders were satisfied with their work.

Sykes, who narrowly missed out on the title to Max Biaggi at the final race of last season at Magny Cours in October, clocked a time of 1m 32.8s, three-tenths of a second quicker than his effort at the circuit last year.

Baz's best lap was a 1m 33.4s.

"To be honest the lap times came quite comfortably and we had a decent pace on the first day," Briton Sykes said.

“We only used one set of tyres on the final morning and on lap 15 I equalled my best from day one but then the rains came and we had to stop early.

“We got some good information to keep moving forward with development of the Ninja ZX-10R,” he added.

"I am already familiar and comfortable with the 17-inch tyres and they worked well with myself and the Kawasaki around Valencia.

“Overall I am happy with that we have been doing so far.”

Baz said: “The test went well, very positive, so it was a pity that the rains came in the afternoon of the second day because we still had some things to try.

“I think I could have gone maybe even 0.5 seconds faster, I'm sure. I had a good pace straight away on the first day, so I am happy. The evolution of the bike went in a good way so everything is positive.”

Another three-day test is scheduled for the middle of November at Motorland Aragon.
