Jimmy White became the latest veteran cueman to fail to reach the World Championship first round at the Crucible after suffering a 10-4 defeat to Ian Burns.

Six-times finalist White - who lost in finals in 1984, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1993 - could not reproduce the levels of form that saw him reach the last 16 of the China Open.

White's old rival Steve Davis faces losing his place on the Tour after he suffered a 10-8 defeat to Craig Steadman a day ealier at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Burns ran in knocks of 131 and 121 in reeling off eight of the last nine frames in their second round qualifier.

2012 quarter-finalist Jamie Jones picked up the final six frames in recovering from trailing 9-4 to unearth a 10-9 win over Joel Walker that included knocks of 101, 70 and 60.

Grimbsy potter Stuart Carrington came up with a 10-7 win over over Jack Lisowski after trailing 4-0 while Martin Gould ran out a 10-1 winner over Mitchell Travis courtesy of runs of 67, 98, 106, 69, 113, 132 and 81.

The qualifying rounds for the World Championship run until April 16, by which time 16 players will have stamped their tickets to join the 16 seeds at the Crucible Theatre.
