Snooker - Davis misses out on China Open

Six-time world champion Steve Davis failed to secure his place in the China Open main draw after losing 5-0 to Mark King.

The 55-year-old was whitewashed by the Essex cueman who will go into the last 32 which begins in Beijing on March 25.

The top 16 players in the world are to be joined by the 16 winners from the fourth round matches of qualifying at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.

Joe Perry, Martin Gould, Dominic Dale, Ryan Day, Tom Ford, Jamie Burnett and Fergal O’Brien were upset by lower ranked opponents. The latter losing to world number 76 Dechawat Poomjaeng from Thailand who won his fourth match of the week to reach the televised stages.
