Ski Jumping - Japan jump to mixed team World Cup title in Lillehammer

World champions Japan secured the mixed team ski jumping World Cup in Lillehammer after a nerve-racking wait for Taku Takeuchi in the competition's final jump.

Strong winds had interrupted the competition throughout and it only added to a riveting finale in Norway, with Japan looking to leapfrog Austria at the top of the standings.

But 26-year-old Takeuchi held his nerve despite a five-minute delay, jumping his way to 100.5m to secure the title for Japan who racked up 942.1 points.

Austria took second place with 901.9, while hosts Norway lost their title but did manage to fight their way back into third.

Takeuchi leapt the furthest in the first round with a lengthy 104m, but he was pipped in the second round by Germany's Karl Geiger who managed 107.5m.

It wasn't enough, though, to cement a place on the podium for the Germans as they finished just 3.9 points adrift of Norway after all eight jumps had been completed.
