Premier League - United reportedly set to make shock move for Mannone

Manchester United are set to make a shock move for Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Mannone has put in a string of impressive performances in recent weeks, which, according to the report, prompted David Moyes to send scouts to watch the Sunderland-Fulham game last weekend.

Such is United’s interest, they have reportedly made a tentative enquiry about the former Arsenal man but Sunderland are thought to be unwilling to consider a sale.

However, United are still considering a formal offer to test their resolve - in what would be a hugely surprising move.

The 25-year-old ended his eight-year stay at Arsenal when he signed a two-year contract with the Wearside club over the summer.

He managed only 26 senior appearances for the Gunners - four of which came in last season's Champions League - but has become an integral member of Gus Poyet's side as they look to pull away from the relegation zone.
