Giving his first press conference as the manager of Manchester United, the former Netherlands boss confirmed that he will work with the current squad to “see what they can do” before he decides on which areas of the pitch the Red Devils need to strengthen.

Man United have already acquired Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and left-back Luke Shaw from Southampton during the summer transfer window, but the 62-year-old insisted the two players were already on the Old Trafford club’s shopping list.

"I want to look at the players we have now. I've seen them but I want to see them now, first hand. So for 3-4 weeks I will see what they can do, and then maybe I will buy more players.

"Shaw and Herrera were already on the list, and I gave my approval because I like them. But my philosophy is to judge the team we have"
