Premier League - Paper Round: Liverpool to make formal Salah bid

Liverpool are poised to firm up their interest in Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, according to the morning's newspapers.

Liverpool to step up chase for Egyptian star: According to the Telegraph, Liverpool will “this week make a formal bid for Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, who is valued at £12m by his Swiss club Basel.” Salah has shown his class against Tottenham and Chelsea in Europe in recent seasons and Liverpool look set to firm up their long-standing interest.

Paper Round’s view: Salah is some talent - one of the most exciting to emerge from his region of the world in decades - and a move to the Premier League would be a huge chance to become a genuine world star. Brendan Rodgers has a knack of getting the best out of unconventional forwards and this is a move which suits all parties.

PSG ‘to make move for Cabaye’: According to the Daily Telegraph, the French champions are prepared to make a huge £26m offer for the Newcastle midfielder, who was targeted by Arsenal in the summer. Real Madrid star turns down Prem move: Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata for some time now but according to the Daily Express he has decided to stay at the Spanish club, leaving Liverpool and Tottenham disappointed as well. "Despite all the stories that have emerged, I am happy here," Morata says in the paper.

Paper Round’s view: With three goals in La Liga this season it’s not like Morata is setting the world on fire in La Liga and it’s no huge loss to the Premier League that he won’t be coming here on loan. Jese would be a better target.

Fulham increase bid for Swansea star: The Times reports this morning that struggling Fulham have made a £4m offer for Swansea left-back Neil Taylor, who has a battle on his hands with Ben Davies at the club. The paper reports: “The Wales player, 24, has interested Newcastle United in the past and has a contract until 2016. Fulham made an approach for Ryan Bertrand, who has since moved to Aston Villa from Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season, but want a long-term full back.”

Paper Round’s view: Davies really took his chance last season following an injury to Taylor and the older of the two men, though still only 24, could probably do with a change of scenery having started few games this season. Fulham want younger blood so this makes sense all round.
