The Dutchman’s virtuoso display capped off a fine afternoon for the South Wales side as Wayne Routledge added a third in the second half to seal all three points against a lacklustre Norwich.
Swansea raced to a 2-0 half time lead after dominating much of the possession in the early exchanges. De Guzman opened the scoring after he pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the area to drill the ball home with a low left-footed strike.
Less than 10 minutes later and De Guzman doubled the lead with a neat left footed finish off the post after being played in to the penalty area by a delightful backheel from Wilfried Bony.
But Swansea rode the early storm and added a third through Wayne Routledge after he was slipped in by Jonjo Shelvey to put the game beyond the Canaries.
The win takes Swansea above Norwich in the table by a single point into 14th and eight points from the relegation zone. Norwich go down to 15th and are seven points clear of relegation.
24’ - SWANSEA COME CLOSE! – Shelvey plays a good ball into the box from deep which Michu stretches to meet but can’t direct it on target.
27’ – SWANSEA GO CLOSER! – Michu plays a one-two with Routledge who shoots low only for Ruddy to stick out a paw and save. Howson makes a goal-saving challenge before de Guzman can finish the rebound.
30’ – DE GUZMAN DELIGHT! - Swansea 1-0 Norwich – Shelvey crosses from the right but the header is cleared upwards by Bassong. Michu makes enough of a nuisance of himself so the ball is only half-cleared before De Guzman pounces on the bouncing ball and drills home with his left foot into the bottom corner.
38’ – SEXY SWANSEA FOOTBALL! Swansea 2-0 Norwich – De Guzman plays it in to Bony who holds off Bennett before backheeling it into the path of the Dutchman who continued his run beyond him. The midfielder dinks the ball with his left foot into the bottom corner off the post.
46’ – OFF THE LINE! – Snodgrass smashes a low half-volley past Vorm but Williams got behind his goalkeeper and manages to clear the ball off the line.
66’ – NORWICH CHANCE – Olsson crosses low to the near post where Elmander gets a toe on the ball but Vorm manages to get something on it from point blank range to turn it away.
75’ – NEVER IN DOUBT! Swansea 3-0 Norwich – Routledge tucks the ball into the back of the net with his left foot after Shelvey breaks from deep and plays in the speedy winger to put the game beyond Norwich.
81’ – BLUSHES SPARED – Bony backheels to Routledge who crosses to Olsson. His dodgy clearance comes off Bassong who knows nothing about it and it comes off the post.
All of De Guzman’s last six goals for Swansea have come at the Liberty Stadium.
This is the first time Michu has not scored against Norwich. Robert Snodgrass didn’t score or assist for the first time in three matches against Swansea.
In the six Premier League meetings between these two sides there have been 25 goals.
Swansea have recorded their first ever victory over Norwich City in the Premier League at the sixth time of asking, having lost three and drawn the other two prior to today.
The hosts dominated possession, having 58% of the ball and sixteen shots on goal. Norwich managed just four shots on target in the 90 minutes.
Are Swansea now safe from relegation? Garry Monk’s side have now moved eight points clear of the drop zone and have their star player Michu back playing. With Wilfried Bony also hitting good form it would appear the South Wales side are now safe from the threat of the drop.
