Premier League - Paulinho piledriver earns Spurs a point

Premier League, KC Stadium – Hull City 1 (Long 12’) Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Paulinho 61’)

A stunning strike from Paulinho gave Tottenham a 1-1 draw with Hull City.

The Brazilian fired in a spectacular equaliser from the edge of the box on the hour mark after Shane Long had given the Tigers an early lead after racing on to Nikica Jelavic's through ball.

The Tigers created the better chances with Jelavic hitting the post before chipping the ball over Hugo Lloris with Michael Dawson clearing off the line.

But Spurs held on to snatch a point and remain in fifth place while Hull lie in 13th.

KEY MOMENTS

10’ – SAVE: Adebayor forces Harper into a fine save with a side-footed volley from the edge of the box.

12 – GOAL: Jelavic’s flick on sends Long clear and he fires the ball past Lloris after racing into the box.

39’ – FREE KICK: Jelavic's strike from 30 yards is inches wide with Lloris flat-footed.

55’ - DOUBLE CHANCE: Lennon's shot from the edge of the box is blocked, the ball falls to Soldado whose weak effort is parried by Harper.

61’ – EQUALISER: Rose’s shot is controlled by Paulinho who lashes the ball into the roof of the net.

64’ – WOODWORK: Long's cross finds Jelavic who slides in and his shot hits the post.

70’ – CHANCE: Jelavic chips the ball over the advancing Lloris and Dawson clears the ball off the line.

87’ – LLORIS SAVE: A neat one two with Long sends Jelavic clear who forces Lloris into a good low save.

KEY STATS

Spurs had 66 per cent possession in the first half but found themselves a goal down.

Shane Long’s goal was the first time the Tigers have scored in the league in 2014.

TALKING POINT: Should Spurs have bought a striker in January? Adebayor was quiet despite working hard, but is a hit and miss player. Soldado gave another wasteful performance and looks bereft of confidence and a shadow of the player he was at Valencia. Tim Sherwood said he turned down the chance to spend in the transfer window, he may come to rue that decision.

MAN OF THE MATCH:

Nikica Jelavic (Hull City): He was a brilliant foil for Shane Long and set up Hull’s goal. He went close with a couple of efforts including hitting the post and deserved a goal for his display.
