German central midfielder Georgios Spanoudakis has rejected a number of rival offers to join the Gunners, where he is expected to continue to hone his craft in their Academy ranks.
Spanoudakis, who will be able to choose between representing either Germany or Greece internationally should he continue to progress, joined Barca’s La Masia academy in 2009 from Eintracht Frankfurt, aged 10.
And the comparisons between he and Fabregas have already come thick and fast, with Spanoudakis said to have technical ability and an eye for a final ball similar to the Spaniard, who will turn out for Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea in 2014/15.
In addition to Fabregas, Arsene Wenger has also recruited the likes of Fran Merida, Jon Toral, Hector Bellerin and Julio Pieguezuelo Silva from Barcelona’s youth ranks.
The latter three remain at the club as they continue to rise through the ranks, while Merida, now 24, moved to Brazil to play for Atletico Paranaense after two unproductive seasons at Atletico Madrid from 2010 to 2012 followed by a season at Hercules.
Spanoudakis becomes the seventh signing of Arsenal's youth team following Kristopher Da Graca, Ben Sheaf, Elias Hatzitheodoridis, Hugo Keto, Jonatas Centeno and Savvas Mourgos to the Emirates.
