Report: Nibali to get Italy nod

Vincenzo Nibali will reportedly compete in both the time trial and road race at the London Olympics before leading the Italian national team at the world championships in Valkenburg.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Liquigas-Cannondale rider met national coach Paolo Bettini at the final stage of the Giro d'Italia in Milan to discuss his role.

His inclusion in the Olympic team - and subsequently the road race team - would mean disappointment for Marco Pinotti, the newspaper reports.

BMC rider Pinotti won the final time trial in Milan on Sunday.

The paper said the rest of the team would comprise Luca Paolini (Katusha), Filippo Pozzato (Farnese Vini-Selle Italia), Elia Viviani (Liquigas-Cannondale) and Matteo Trentin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep). Pinotti would be included on the reserve list alongside Adriano Malori (Lampre-ISD) and Daniel Oss (Liquigas-Cannondale).

Damiano Cunego would be the man to miss out on the road race team.
