Ligue 1 - Ex-Strasbourg defender Drobny dies in accident

Former Czech Republic and Strasbourg defender Vaclav Drobny has died in bobsleigh accident. He was 32.

Drobny, who played for the French club between 2002 and 2004, was on holiday at the Spindleruv Mlyn resort in his homeland when the accident occurred.

He was reported to have skidded off-piste into a tree at high speed on Friday morning.

The towering centre-back played twice for Czech Republic in 2004, after rising to prominence at Strasbourg.

He was then loaned to Premier League side Aston Villa but failed to make the first team, later returning to his homeland with Sparta Prague, where he won the Czech League in 2007.

Drobny also played for FC Augsburg in Germany, and was most recently at Bohemians Prague.
