Liga - Rumour: James Rodriguez to Real Madrid is ‘imminent’

James Rodriguez is almost a Real Madrid player, reports in Spain claim, after Monaco accepted an offer of €70m (£55.3m) and a player.

AS say that the Ligue 1 club have yielded to James’ desire to move to Santiago Bernabeu and in the next few days the Colombia international will sign a five-year deal with wages of €7.5m a year.

However, the player to move in the other direction has not yet been decided. Monaco reportedly asked for Pepe and were swiftly rejected, as they were when Fabio Coentrao’s name was brought up. Casemiro is more likely.

James will replace Angel Di Maria in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, it is said. The Argentine is pushing to quit the Champions League winners as he does not feel appreciated there.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are in competition for Di Maria, who is said to favour the latter as they are in the Champions League for the coming season.

PSG will pay €60m and that money will be put towards James’ signing, AS add.

EUROSPORT'S VIEW

James was always likely to move away from Monaco after impressing the world this summer. This seems like a very big deal for all parties concerned and it will be interesting to see whether or not these reports from Spain are true. They do appear somewhat flimsy at the moment though with just one source going with it.

As for Di Maria, the link between him and PSG has grown stronger over the past two days and it seems likely he will be signing for them soon.
