Puyol was part of the team that won Euro 2008 and World Cup 2012 but has struggled for fitness this season, making only four league starts for Barcelona and nine appearances in total in all competitions.
Grande spoke to Spanish radio and discussed the centre-back’s situation, admitting that while there is still time for Puyol to regain his place, as it stands, he isn’t pencilled in to the squad.
“We haven't completely ruled him out yet, but naturally, he needs to play a lot more often and be involved in the thick of the action,” Grande said.
“We haven't ruled him out yet because there are still three more months until the World Cup, but it's very difficult for him.”
Grande did however commend Puyol for his contribution to La Roja’s success in recent tournaments, citing the Barca captain as an example to others.
“He's been a vital player to the team for a very long time,” Grande added.
“Not just on the pitch, but also off it, because of his experience, commitment, exemplary behaviour and optimism.”
