The Briton, seeking a first WTCC drivers' title, joined three-times champion Muller on 315 points ahead of the final three meetings of the season.
“I’ve been striving to maintain my consistency and this weekend’s results are a fantastic reward for my hard work,” said Huff.
“With Yvan and myself now tied on points and the calendar taking us to tracks where I have previously performed well, I am hopeful that I can go one better than last year and take the Drivers’ Championship crown.”
France's Muller failed to score from the race following a drive-through penalty that was imposed by stewards after he pushed Franz Engstler into a spin while stealing the lead from him.
Despite Muller’s penalty, Huff did not have the race all his own way, as Norbert Michelisz and Gabriele Tarquini chased him closely.
Michelisz and Tarquini eventually finished second and third respectively, ensuring Hungarian Michelisz repeated his Yokohama Trophy victory from race one.
