Guly commits to Southampton

Guly is keen to make a telling contribution at Southampton for years to come after signing a new one-year contract to keep him at St Mary's until June 2014. The Brazilian playmaker helped the Saints secure promotion to the Premier League last season with 10 goals from 42 appearances in their Championship-winning campaign. His previous deal was set to expire in 12 months, but Guly is delighted to have committed his future to the club for another year as he revealed his family are settled on the south coast. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder, who joined from Cesena, initially on loan in August 2010 before making the move permanent the following January, is relishing his first foray in the top flight and cannot wait to showcase his talents on the big stage. "I'm very happy to have signed a new contract. To be able to stay here for another year to help the team was very important to me, and I think I have a big opportunity this season," he told tyhe club's official website. "I'm happy and my family are happy to stay here, so it was good to sign a new contract. Everything has gone well in the last two years - the team has come back into the Premier League and we have a good chance to do well this season. "We are going to play in big stadiums against big players and the fans are going to be happy to see these teams in Southampton again. It's going to be fantastic because I have a big chance to show people what I can do."
