Golf - Donald wins Dunlop Phoenix in Japan

World number three Luke Donald fired a final round 68 to win the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan.

Donald finished on a 16-under 268 total at the Phoenix Country Club on the Hitotsuba Pacific Coast in the south of the country.

The Englishman, who last year became the first golfer to win the European and US Tour money lists in the same season, finished five shots clear of Hideki Matsuyama at the 200,000,000 yen event.

Donald led by four strokes overnight and consolidated his advantage with birdies at the fourth and eighth plus an eagle at the seventh.

Although he dropped shots at nine and 10, the victory was in little doubt and he completed a successful week with a birdie at the last.

Koumei Oda was a stroke further back in third after a closing 64 while Japan money-list leader Hiroyuki Fujita (70), who has two further events following this week's tournament to retain his advantage, and Australian Brendan Jones (71) were tied fourth a further shot back.

Big-hitting Spaniard Alvaro Quiros fired a 68 to claim a share of sixth on eight-under, while victorious European Ryder Cup member Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium was down in 22nd on one-under for the event after a disappointing 71.
