Froome withdraws from time-trial

Chris Froome has decided to pull out of the UCI Road World Championships time-trial in order to focus his attention on the road race.

Froome won Olympic bronze in the time-trial as Team GB colleague Bradley Wiggins took gold, but after a long summer has opted not to contest the title at the World Championships in the Netherlands on Wednesday.

The Team Sky rider - who followed a second-place finish in the Tour de France with fourth in the Vuelta a Espana - will instead put all his effort into Sunday's road race.

Froome said he needed more recovery time as he aims to help Mark Cavendish defend his title in Sunday's 261km race in Limburg.

Alex Dowsett is now Britain's only competitor in the time-trial.
