Totti finished beautifully into the bottom corner early in the second half in one of the only attempts Roma had on goal during the entire match to give the Italian side victory.
Madrid dominated the first half and could have gone ahead after 20 minutes but Gareth Bale blazed his shot over the bar.
Totti gave his side the lead by dummying a pass to the right wing allowing Alessandro Florenzi to cross back to the ageing Italian who swept the ball home in the 50th minute.
Other than Totti’s goal, excitement was provided by a spat between Seydou Keita and Pepe before a ball was kicked in anger and a five minute pitch invasion at the end of the game.

5’ – FIRST CHANCE - Modric releases Bale down the left wing. He sprints on to it and crosses first time to Lucas at the far post. He gets it under control immediately and smashes a shot at goal but Cole is there to block.
20’ – CLOSE AGAIN - Carvajal releases Lucas down the right wing. He plays a brilliant first time cross to Bale in the middle but he scuffs the first time shot wide of the left post as Benatia applies the pressure.
43’ – GREAT SAVE – A cross comes in from Carvajal and the ball drops to Lucas who smashes the ball towards goal. Skorupski is down low to save but the ball drops to Pepe who blazes high and wide with the goal gaping.
50’ - WHAT A GOAL! - Totti steps over the ball as the ball is played over him and allows the ball run to Florenzi. He continues his run into the box and is found by the cross and sweeps it home. Lovely goal.
85’- PITCH INVASION – A young fan ran onto the pitch to take a selfie with Benatia before scores of other young fans came running on to the pitch to shake hands with the superstars.
Can Totti lead Roma to a glorious season in his final years as a footballer? Francesco Totti has always been a mercurial talent and his influence is waning but it was his moment of quality that turned the game. He still has a huge part to play in Roma’s season and he, as well as Rudi Garcia, will be hoping he can lead the team to glory this season.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Mehdi Benatia (Roma): Not hard to see why he is one of the most wanted defenders in Europe and why Roma have tried so badly to keep him this summer. Headed everything away today and didn’t give any of the Real Madrid attackers time or space when they got near him. A class act.
