Freestyle Skiing - Victory for Cheng as China dominate in Deer Valley

Cheng Shuang took gold as China continue to lay down a marker ahead of next month's Olympics in Sochi by winning four of the available six medals at the freestyle skiing aerials World Cup in Deer Valley.

Cheng, the 2011 world champion in Deer Valley, got better as the competition progressed in America, placing fifth in final one, third in final two and then first in final three to lead a Chinese clean sweep. Zhang Xin claimed second while defending overall and aerials World Cup champion Xu Mengtao was third although she did top qualifying and place first in both final one and final two with another Chinese skier in Kong Fanyu fourth. Zhang leads the overall freestyle skiing aerials World Cup by 20 points ahead of compatriot Li Nina, who finished down in tenth in Deer Valley, with Xu six behind them in third and Cheng 14 further adrift in fourth. And reigning men's world champion Qi Gaungpu added a fourth medal for China however it was silver and not gold as Anton Kushnir of Belarus took victory to move into first overall in the aerials World Cup standings. And Kushnir's victory was made all the more sweeter with Belarusian teammate and Olympic champion Alexei Grishin, one of the oldest in the field in Deer Valley at 34, placing third in final three.
