According to the Sun, previous target Mesut Ozil of Real Madrid is 'back on their radar' amid reports that he is considering his future at Real Madrid.
Sir Alex Ferguson was heavily linked with the German international when he left Werder Bremen two seasons ago, but the 24-year-old decided to move to the Bernabeu instead.
However, the Sun points out that Ozil is: "No longer a first choice under Jose Mourinho following the arrival of Luka Modric and sources insist he is growing increasingly unhappy.
"United chief Alex Ferguson has asked to be kept informed of any developments and would be at the front of the queue if Real decide to sell."
Ozil is seen as an ideal successor to Paul Scholes and as his wages are *only* £110,000-a-week he would comfortably fit in with the United pay structure.
The Sun adds:" If Real do choose to offload Ozil, the Spaniards would want double the £12million they paid Bremen."
Darren Bent's days at Aston Villa appear to be numbered but rumours of a move to Liverpool are wide of the mark according to the Guardian.
They instead say that it is QPR who are leading the chase for the England striker with "Harry Redknapp confident he can patch up his differences with the striker he fell out with at Tottenham Hotspur when he accused the England international of missing a chance 'my missus could have scored'."
The paper says that QPR would be willing to pay £10m for a striker that Villa splashed out £24m for when he joined from Sunderland's two years ago, but they could face a challenge for his service from another club but not Liverpool.
The paper explains: "Liverpool have been linked with Bent, who cost Villa a fee rising to £24m when he joined from Sunderland a little under two years ago, but Brendan Rodgers, the manager at Anfield, has other targets.
"Fulham are far more likely suitors - Martin Jol, their manager, was in charge at Spurs when Bent joined in 2007 and he remains an admirer - although QPR would appear to be the frontrunners."
