Premier League - Managers: Rodgers backs Toure after costly error

All the managerial reaction as Brendan Rodgers refuses to criticise defender Kolo Toure for a costly blunder which led to West Brom's equaliser in the 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns.

West Brom 1-1 Liverpool

Pepe Mel: "We forget the way in the first half. Saido Berahino and Matej Vydra were to press the centre-backs but (Steven) Gerrard being free was a problem for us. In the second half we had a high press with (Youssouf) Mulumbu and (Claudio) Yacob behind doing good work. The goal came from a high press and a bad pass. This is the way, a high press together, but it is not possible when only one player does it."

Brendan Rodgers: "I'll never criticise players for trying to play football but Kolo probably shouldn't have received the ball under pressure and his pass was misplaced. Kolo Toure has been brilliant since he's been here. He's been a real leader, an outstanding professional and, unfortunately, it was a mistake. It tells you everything about our expectancy now, we came here and lost, and lost at home to West Brom, last year. So to get four points out of six (this season) shows the improvement."

Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace

Arsene Wenger: "We needed to get three points and it was difficult because Crystal Palace are a united team, very well-organised with a big physical quality and impact in every challenge. On our side we needed to be patient, intelligent and use our opportunities that most of the time come in the second half. That is what we did. Our defensive stability doesn't create unrest in the team and allows us to continue the way we want to play, even if we don't score early goals, and that's what happened here. At home we don't concede and that of course means you don't have to rush your game too much."

Tony Pulis: "We've played Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City away and we've looked a real threat against those three teams and did really well at all the grounds. The two wide players played exceptionally well on those days and our two wide players I didn't think played as well today. So we weren't the threat that we were hoping to be. The lads kept working kept going and we're really disappointed to give a poor goal away just after half time and that was their big moment. Our big moment happened 90 seconds later down the other end and we don't take it - that's really the difference in lots of respects today."
