Football - Ledesma happy to see new year

In-form Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Ledesma admits he will be glad to see the back of 2013.

The 25-year-old Argentinian has proved a key figure in recent weeks, but has otherwise endured a miserable 12 months on Teesside.

Ledesma told the Evening Gazette: "The last few games have been fantastic and I want to enjoy my moment with the team and with my family.

"But the truth is that 2013 has not been a good year and I will be glad to see it gone. This is a good team and a great club, but we have had a terrible year.

"It has been a bad year for me and for the whole team, I have to admit that.

"For me personally it has been a bad year because I have never really had the chance to play. All players want to be in the team, but I could not do that. I was not selected, or I played and we lost or I was injured or I was sent off.

"Every time I got in the team, things went badly for me, so for me it has been a very frustrating year because I have not had a chance to get a place in the team."
