Rafael Benitez: "We knew they (Villa) would be dangerous in counter-attacks, so we were trying to stop them with the way we wanted to attack, and everything went to plan. We'll try to be as close (to the title) as possible, but you can see the mentality of the team; even after six goals they were still pushing forward for more. I can see the team improving the little things we wanted to improve, but still we can improve some things and I say that after winning by eight."
Paul Lambert: "I'm not going to sit here and make excuses, we were well beaten, second best all over the pitch. We'll have to pick ourselves up and go again on Wednesday, hurt as we are. Nothing really surprises me in football. I've been in it long enough to know you have to be bang at it every single game, but we were well below our standard of late. We'll go back to the training ground, train Monday and Tuesday, and go again. You go into every game thinking you can win. The first goal put us on the back foot, two minutes gone with a great header, but football shouldn't surprise you. They're a really young side. Sometimes getting beat tells you a lot about people."
Michael Laudrup: "I am pleased with a good performance. They started a bit better than us, scored the goal and had five to 10-minute period where they could have scored a second which would have made it difficult. They had more of the ball and created more chances but I felt it could have gone either way. They had more chances but that is normal when playing a side who are top of the table. It is a great point for the club and the players. I heard last season there was too much respect shown for United, that was not the case."
Sir Alex Ferguson: "The Van Persie situation you can clearly see that he could have been killed. The FA has got to look into it regardless that he has been given a yellow card. He should be banned for a long time because that was the most dangerous thing I've seen on a football field for many years. It was absolutely deliberate. The whistle has gone, the game has stopped and he has done that right in front of the referee, he could have killed the lad. It was a disgraceful act by the player, he should be banned for a long time."
