Football - Hodgson sticks with World Cup flops for Norway friendly

Roy Hodgson has decided against naming any uncapped players for England's friendly international against Norway at Wembley on Wednesday night.

England named four uncapped players in their squad for the game, Arsenal's 19-year-old defender Calum Chambers, and the trio of Jack Colback of Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose and Aston Villa's Fabian Delph, all aged 24, but none start at Wembley.

Colback is injured for the clash with after picking up an injury while playing for Newcastle at the weekend, while the other three have to settle for places on the bench.

Arsenal new-boy Danny Welbeck is also rested after picking up a minor ankle strain in training.

Everton youngster John Stones does start however at right-back, and he is the only player in the starting line-up who was not part of England's World Cup squad.

With Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard both now retired, Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Liverpool's Jordan Henderson will partner each other in central midfield.

Wayne Rooney leads the side for the first time since been named permanent captain of the national team in the wake of Gerrard's retirement.

FA officials are braced for England's lowest attendance since Wembley was rebuilt in 2007 for the game.

In what is England team's first match since their abysmal showing at this summer's World Cup in Brazil, a crowd of less than 40,000 is expected to be in attendance.

The game will serve a warm-up for England's opening Euro 2016 qualifier in Switzerland next Monday.

England team: Hart; Stones, Jones, Cahill Baines; Chamberlain, Henderson, Wilshere, Sterling; Rooney, Sturridge.
