Football - Draw was fair - McNamara

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara felt the 1-1 draw with Inverness was just about the correct result.

The match only went ahead after referee John Beaton had carried out a precautionary inspection on the pitch following an overnight frost.

Billy McKay's fifth minute opener looked to have put John Hughes on his way to a first home win since taking charge at Inverness last month, but Keith Watson restored parity just four minutes later.

Both sides had their chances to claim a first win in five games, the best of these a Nick Ross spot-kick that United goalkeeper Radoslaw Czerniak saved, but neither could find a winner.

He said: "It's one of those games that could have went either way to be honest, so on reflection a draw was a fair result.

"We've hit the post a couple of times, while our goalkeeper has had a fantastic save from the penalty.

"I thought the pitch was very firm. It just seemed firm in certain areas like the goalmouth, but the referee deemed it fine."
