Figure Skating - Team GB name six figure skaters for Sochi 2014

Team GB's squad for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games swelled to 16 after the British Olympic Association announced six figure skaters will be making the trip.

With the men's and women's curling teams already revealed it was the turn of the figure skaters to take centre stage.

Jenna McCorkell will compete at her second Winter Games in the ladies event after finishing 29th in Vancouver, and will head to Russia as an 11-time British champion.

Competing in the ice dance will be Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland, both 24, who train in the USA under two-time Olympic champion Evgeny Platov. They are the current British Ice Dance champion and placed sixth at the European Championships in 2011 and will also compete in their second Games.

Nine-time British champions Stacey Kemp and David King became the first Team GB pair to qualify for an Olympic Games for 16 years when they qualified for Vancouver 2010, and will go for it again in the pairs competition.

And Matthew Parr is set to make his Olympic debut after being named as the men's representative in the team event.

Sochi 2014 Team GB Chef de Mission Mike Hay said: "With just 58 days to go to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, another six members have been added to Team GB, bringing the total to 16.

"Over the coming weeks this will grow further, until we reach the expected 50 or so athletes.

"For the first time the Olympic Programme features a team event and it is great that our talented figure skaters have qualified for this.

"They will be the amongst the very first members of Team GB in action at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics as this event starts on February 6. I wish all the figure skaters the very best for continued success in Sochi."
