Eddie Wineland Puts Off Retirement, Faces Bryan Caraway at UFC on Fox 16

Two top ten-ranked bantamweights will clash at UFC on Fox 16 in Chicago on July 25. UFC officials announced on Thursday that sixth-ranked Eddie Wineland (21-10-1) would take on tenth-ranked Bryan Caraway (19-7) at the United Center.

Wineland hasn’t fought since May 2014. He’s coming off a knockout loss to Johnny Eduardo in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 40. After the contest, it was discovered that Wineland suffered a broken jaw and recovery for the injury included wiring his jaw shut. The injury was the second time he suffered a broken jaw, nearly leading him into retirement.

The 30-year-old opted to return to the Octagon, and will be looking to get back in the win column when he faces Caraway.

Caraway had a two-fight winning streak snapped by third-ranked Rafael Assuncao in his last outing at UFC Fight Night 54. He’s looking to move up the 135-pound rankings with a win over Wineland.

UFF on Fox 16 headlined by a rematch between bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and former titleholder Renan Barao. Caraway’s girlfriend, Miesha Tate, takes on Jessica Eye in the fight card’s co-main event.
