Dakar - Bikes: Lopez wins stage six as Despres goes second

Chilean rider Francisco Lopez won stage six of the Dakar Rally to close on the leading trio of French riders while it was a good day for Cyril Despres.

Lopez won the 455km stage between Arica and Calama in a time of four hours 56 minutes 21 seconds, 2:34 ahead of Portugal’s Ruben Faria and 3:48 faster than Despres.

Despres is now second overall after gaining seven minutes on compatriot David Casteu on the day.

He also gained four minutes on rally leader Olivier Pain, who finished the stage down in ninth. Despres is now 2:22 off the pace.

Lopez is now fourth place, trailing Pain by 6:06, after the win.
