Dakar - Bikes: Despres claims stage nine victory

French rider Cyril Despres claimed victory in the motorcycle category on the ninth stage of the Dakar Rally.

Despres completed the 852km ride from San Miguel de Tucuman to Cordoba, including 593km of special stages, in a time of five hours, 41 minutes and 36 seconds.

Spain’s Joan Barreda Bort and Italy’s Alessandro Botturi, both riding a Husqvarna, finished behind Despres on the stage.

Portugal’s Ruben Faria has the overall lead after the opening nine stages, five minutes and 23 seconds ahead of Despres.

The 10th stage on Tuesday will see the riders negotiate the terrain from Cordoba to La Rioja in Argentina.
