Dakar - Bikes: Coma takes stage 11, victory looms

Spain’s Marc Coma powered to victory in stage 11 of the Dakar Rally to increase his overall lead to 52 minutes.

Coma finished two minutes, 51 seconds ahead of France’s Cyril Despres on the longest stage from Antofagasta to El Salvador in Chile.

Stage 10 winner Joan Barreda could only finish fifth as his hopes of winning the overall title faded.

“It was a very long day,” said Coma. “I had a little fall at the start, but it wasn't serious.

“After that, I tried to maintain a good pace. The important thing is still being here in the race and also to be careful, because there is still one tough day left.
