Dakar - Bikes: Barreda Bort wins stage three, leads overall

Joan Barreda Bort won the third stage from San Rafael to San Juan to move to the top of the overall standings.

The Spainard’s time of three hours, 47 minutes and three seconds saw him 04:41 ahead of Cyril Despres and 06:56 ahead of fellow countryman Marc Coma.

Barreda Bort had already claimed the first stage of this year’s race with Honda teammate Sam Sunderland claiming victory on stage two.

The Englishman had briefly led stage three but crashed and got lost, which has all but ended his hopes of taking the overall title.

"I had a fall on a very steep slope," Sunderland said.

"I lost a lot of time looking for the right route ... at 4000 metres you get a bit disoriented."
