Cycling - Italian monuments moved to Sunday

Milan-San Remo and the Giro di Lombardia have been moved from Saturday to Sunday.

The UCI confirmed that it had moved the two races to March 17 and October 7 respectively.

RCS Sport chief Michele Acquarone said increased road safety, better global television coverage and the ability to run mass participation events on the same day as the races were the reasons for the change.

The Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege - cycling's other Monuments and those generally considered to be the oldest and most-prestigious one-day races on the calendar - are already held on a Sunday.
