Cycling - Horner hospitalised after training crash

Lampre-Merida star Chris Horner has suffered several injuries after a training accident, his team announced.

The veteran US rider, who won last year’s Vuelta a Espana at the age of 41, came off his bike while training near Lake Como in Italy.

The full details of the accident have not been disclosed, but his team said he was “probably hit by a car”.

Horner, who is now 42, was taken to Lecco hospital with a cut to the head but, after evaluation, concussion was ruled out.

Healso suffered a punctured lung and four broken ribs.
