Cycling - Cavendish wins final stage as Kwiatkowski claims Algarve title

Mark Cavendish claimed his first stage win of the 2014 season at the conclusion of the Tour of Algarve, as team-mate Michal Kwiatkowski secured the overall victory.

Cavendish pipped Frenchman Arnaud Demare to the finish line on the fifth and final stage in Vilamoura by less than half a wheel.

His Omega Pharma-Quick Step colleague Kwiatkowski finished with the peloton to secure his maiden career stage-race success.

Stage four winner Alberto Contador was second and world champion Rui Costa third.

Bryan Coquard finished the stage in third behind Demare and Cavendish, who claimed his first stage win since the final stage of the Tour of Britain last September.
