Cross-Country Skiing - Wins for Russia and Finland at cross-country World Cup

Russia's Maxim Vylegzhanin and Dmitry Japarov broke the resolve of their nearest rivals to win the men's team sprint at the cross-country skiing World Cup in Sochi.

The pair mastered a difficult and demanding course, not really suited to sprinters, to win by nearly 20 seconds - a statement of intent ahead of next year's home Olympics at the venue. Sweden were next to finish, followed by Germany and the second string Russia team.

Finland's Mona-Lisa Malvalehto and Anne Kylloenen produced a tactical masterclass to beat their rivals by more than 50m in the women's team sprint event.

Russia's Natalia Matveeva, on the anchor leg, just held off Canada's fast-finishing Daria Gaiazova to claim second after a photo finish while Norway and the United States completed the top five.
