South African-born Flower quit as England's head coach in January following a disastrous tour to Australia in which his side were comprehensively beaten in the Ashes.

Much speculation surrounded the former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper's future in uncertain times for England, but the 45-year-old took it upon himself to stand down as head coach.

However, it appears that his time with the England and Wales Cricket Board is not over after being appointed technical director of elite coaching.

"I see this as a great opportunity for me as I start a new phase of my career," said Flower.

"I am particularly excited about the chance to build and mould a leadership course which is not simply about captaincy but much more.

"This role offers me a chance to make a real contribution to the ability and character of England players and coaches in the years to come."
