Contador wins Milano-Torino

Alberto Contador continued his fine form since returning to cycling by winning the Milano-Torino road race.

The 199-kilometre autumn classic was a gruelling jaunt led for the most part by the Liquigas-Cannondale team.

But the Spaniard – winner of the recent Vuelta a Espana – moved in front ahead of the difficult, hill-laden conclusion.

In his element going uphill, Contador then created space from the pack to cross the finish line alone.

Contador returns to action on Saturday for the 106th edition of the Giro di Lombardia, which has never before been won by a Spanish rider.
