Champions League - Luiz Adriano banned for controversial goal

UEFA has suspended Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luiz Adriano for one match for his controversial Champions League goal against FC Nordsjælland.

The Brazilian, 25, scored when his team-mates returned the ball to the Danish side's goalkeeper from an uncontested drop-ball, levelling at 1-1.

He was widely condemned for the lack of sportsmanship, as were his team-mates when they refused to allow the hosts to re-take the lead from kick-off.

UEFA charged the former Internacional forward with "violation of the principles of conduct" according to article five of its disciplinary regulations, which can apply to a wide range of unsportsmanlike behaviour.

He will miss the Champions League Group E match against Juventus.

Shakhtar have already qualified for the last 16 after their 5-2 win in Copenhagen, but the Italian side need to avoid defeat to ensure they progress ahead of Chelsea.
