Moore, 35, was in Spain training Matthew Macklin for his upcoming WBC international middleweight title bout against Jorge Sebastian-Heiland.

The Foreign Office confirmed that a man was shot over the weekend and Moore is thought to have suffered wounds to both legs and his hip but those injuries were not life threatening.

Moore was shot as he left a nightclub and, according to SkySports News, remains in hospital under armed police guard.

Macklin, 32, owns the gym in Marbella, and recently appointed Moore as a trainer. The pair fought in 2006, with Moore winning that bout by knockout.

Moore was forced to retire in 2010 on medical grounds.
