Boxing - Boxer makes winning return after 21 years

Mark Weinman has won his comeback fight at the age of 50, more than two decades after retiring from boxing.

The New York light-middleweight – known as ‘The Hebrew Hammer’ – got off to a promising start as a young professional in the Northeast US area, winning his first 11 fights with nine knockouts.

After losing three consecutive bouts in his attempt to step up to the next level of competition, he decided to hang up his gloves aged 29 with his last fight a fourth-round stoppage at the fists of Kelvin Prather on September 20, 1991.

But Weinman returned to the ring on Friday with and stopped 32-year-old Dominican Elvis Martinez after 39 seconds of the second round and as a result set the record for the longest period of time between fights – almost 21 years.
