Biathlon - Norway and Ukraine win first relays of World Cup season

Norway and Ukraine were left toasting the first women's 4x6km and men's 4x7.5km relay wins of the new biathlon World Cup season in Hochfilzen, Austria.

The Norwegian quartet of Emil Hegle Svendesn, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, Tarjei Boe and Vetle Sjastad Christiansen combined to clock a winning time of 1:19:50.8hours.

That was almost 20 seconds better than the Swedish four, who in turn beat Russia by 1.8 seconds before the home quartet of Austria in fourth place a further 24.2 behind.

Ukraine's women were even more dominant though, Olena Pidhrushna, Juliya Dzhyma and Valj and Vita Semerenko joining forces to win by almost a minute.

They clocked 1:13.09.2 with Germany the next best team in second but 56.3 behind while France were fully a minute adrift for third place before Russia in fourth.
