The men won the first relay of the season to kick things off, with the team of Lars Helge Birkeland, Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, Vetle Sjastad Christiansen and Henrik L'Abee-Lund finishing in 1:17.55.2 hours in the 4x7.5km event.
Norway took the lead in the second changeover and didn't look back, finishing 34.5 seconds ahead of France while Russia finished third.
The result was made all the more impressive by the fact that the quartet contained three men from Norway's B team in its ranks.
The event was also notable as it was Olympic sprint champion Vincent Jay's final race, the Frenchman having now retired.
Norway's women also got off to a winning start as they stormed to victory in their 4x6km race.
The team of Fanny Welle-Strand Horn, Synnoeve, Hilde Fenne and Tora Berger stormed home in 1:11:45.1 hours for a comfortable win, with Ukraine over half a minute behind in second and Russia taking third.
